Advice for sole traders and companies

Whether the trading allowance beats claiming real expenses, whether it is worth incorporating, how to pay yourself, and what to do in year one.

  • Sole trader, partnership or limited company
  • Salary and dividends, or just salary
  • Allowances and reliefs you are entitled to

Who we are

A small practice you can actually get hold of

Ashcroft has been run by the same ACCA-qualified accountant since 2007. In that time we have sorted the books for several hundred sole traders and small companies, in Derby and well beyond it.

We are not a franchise. Five of us, and every client has one named accountant — somebody who answers the phone and knows your business without looking it up. We explain things in English, not in HMRC.

  • Professional indemnity insurance of £1,000,000
  • Regulated by the ACCA for a range of investment business activities
  • A fixed monthly fee agreed first — no surprise bills
  • We take over from your old accountant, and that costs nothing

Switching, step by step

Moving to us is easy

We write to your old accountant, get the records across and register as your agent. You hand over the paperwork and that is your part done.

1

A first meeting

In the office or on a call. We go through what you have got and tell you what it would cost.

2

We take over

You sign the engagement letter and the agent authorisation. We do the professional clearance letter and collect the records.

3

You send the paperwork

By email, through a shared folder, photographed on your phone, or in a bag through the door. Whatever you will actually keep up.

4

And then it is handled

We watch the deadlines, work out the tax, and tell you what to pay and when — well before it is due.

What to expect

Three things we promise

Not testimonials — the things we will actually be judged on.

Nothing gets filed late. Self Assessment on 31 January, Corporation Tax nine months and a day after the year end, VAT every quarter, payroll on payday. If any of them slips, that is on us, not on you.

You get told the fee before the work. A fixed monthly amount, agreed in the engagement letter. If something outside it comes up, we price it and ask you first.

You can ring a person. One named accountant who knows the business without opening a file. Not a ticket, not a portal message that gets answered in four days.

A free first meeting

Let us have a first meeting

Write a few lines about what you do. We come back within 24 hours with a suggestion and a guide fee — free, and with nothing to sign.

Enquiry form

Fill this in and we will come back to you. Nothing is committed by sending it.

Sending this commits you to nothing. We use your details only to answer it.
