Ask how big the group really gets. A class advertised as small can still be sixteen by week three. Ask what the cap is, in writing, and what happens when more people enrol.
You only learn to speak by speaking.
A language school in York where a group of eight leaves you nowhere to hide — which is exactly why it works. In the classroom or online, and the first class is free to try.
Groups of eight
Everybody gets their turn several times a class. Sitting quietly is not an option here.
Native speakers
Conversation classes are run by native speakers — Spanish from Salamanca, French from Lyon.
A free first class
Try us first. Nothing is paid until after your first real lesson.
The next level always runs
We open a course at your level every term, so you never get stranded halfway up.
What level is your Spanish?
Eight questions, about three minutes. At the end you get your CEFR level, a course from the list that fits it, and the enrolment form filled in for you.
Before you enrol, find out where you actually are. No sign-up, no email — the result is on screen straight away.
- Eight multiple choice questions, each a little harder than the last.
- About three minutes. You can go back and change an answer.
- A result with every answer explained and a course picked to match.
French and Italian are placed in the office or over the phone — the online test is Spanish only for now.
Courses running — a small selection
The term runs from 9 February to 12 June 2026: 17 classes of 90 minutes, priced for the whole term with the coursebook included. The full list, filtered by language, level and format, is on the courses page.

Placement
Do the test here, or call into the office. Ten minutes and we know where you belong.
A free first class
Sit in on a class that is already running. You meet the tutor and the group before you pay anything.
Enrolling
We hold your place, send you the payment details, and the coursebook is in the term price.
Term and feedback
17 weeks of classes. At the end you get a written assessment and a recommendation on what to take next.
Four kinds of class, one idea
You know before you start what a class is like — how it is taught, how big the group is, and what the tutor is qualified in.

Spanish A1–B1
group classes · DELE exam preparation

Spanish conversation B1–C1
90 minutes in Spanish · native speaker

French A1–B2
for work and for holidays · DELF exam preparation

Italian A1–B1
in the classroom or online · native speaker
Three questions worth asking a language school
Ask them of us and of anywhere else you are looking at.
Ask what the tutor is qualified in. Being a native speaker is not a teaching qualification. Ask about training, and about exam experience if you want DELE or DELF at the end of it.
Ask whether the next level will run. Plenty of schools fill a beginners class every September and never open the one after it. Ask how many terms in a row they have run B1.
Call in, ring, or write
The office is three minutes’ walk from Parliament Street, with its own door onto the street. Placement and advice cost nothing and need no appointment.
