Locked out? We are with you in about 30 minutes

The price comes first, not at the door

You get a range and a ceiling on the phone. Nothing above that goes on the invoice unless you have said yes to it.

A locksmith answers the phone

No call centre two hundred miles away taking a cut. You are talking to the person who will be at your door.

Without damage first

A door on the latch usually opens with a slip or through the letterbox. Drilling starts only when nothing else will work.

Paperwork every time

A written record of the job, a proper invoice and a 24 month guarantee. Card, cash or bank transfer.

Price calculator

Work it out before you ring

Four boxes and you know where you stand — what you are paying for, and how long until somebody is there. No “price on arrival”.

01What has happened?

Pick whichever is closest. If you are not sure, ring — talking it through costs nothing.

02What are you trying to get into?

Houses usually have a multi-point lock and better furniture, so it takes longer.

03How urgent is it?

Speed costs nothing extra here. If anything it is the other way round — booking ahead is cheaper.

04When?

Any surcharge comes off the labour only. Never the callout and never the parts.

What we stick to: we confirm the figure from this calculator on the phone, or tighten it once you describe the door. Anything above the agreed ceiling has to be agreed by you first — otherwise it simply does not go on the bill.

It updates as you change things.

    Ring and confirm the price

A guide for Norwich and 12 miles around it. The final figure is always confirmed on the phone before anyone sets off.

    How it goes

From the call to the paperwork

Six steps that go the same way every time — ten on a Monday morning or three on a Sunday night.

    1. You ring

The phone is answered round the clock. We ask about the door, the lock and where you are — usually that is enough to know whether it opens without damage.

    2. You get the price

Before anyone gets in the van you have a range and a ceiling. If you do not like it, nothing happens and nobody sets off.

    3. We set off

You get a text with who is coming, what the van looks like and when. If we are stuck on the ring road you hear it from us first.

    4. We check you are entitled

We ask for photo ID and something that puts you at the address — a tenancy, a bill, a neighbour or the police will do. Without it the door stays shut. It is not us being difficult; it is the whole point of the trade.

    5. We open it

Non-destructive first. Drilling the cylinder only happens once you have said so, at a price you already know.

    6. You pay and you get the paperwork

There is a card machine in the van, and bank transfer is fine. You get an invoice, a written record of the job and the guarantee on the parts.

    Who turns up

    Three of us. Nobody else.

This started in 2015 with one van and one locksmith. There are three of us now, covering the nights between us so that the phone always gets answered by somebody who can actually come out.

Worth knowing: locksmithing is not a regulated trade in this country. Anyone can put the word on a van. Half the numbers that come up in a panic belong to national call centres that sell the job on and add their cut, which is exactly why they will not give you a price. We are MLA registered, which means vetted, inspected and DBS checked — and it is why we can tell you the price up front.

Most nights it is flats around the city centre and Thorpe, houses in Wymondham and Aylsham, holiday lets on the Broads, and the car parks at Whitlingham where people lose keys off a paddleboard.

    From the callouts

What the job actually looks like

Photos from ordinary jobs. Most of them end with nothing to see on the door at all.

    What you can expect

    Three things we always do

You get a ceiling, not a guess. The figure agreed on the phone is the most it can come to. If the door turns out worse than it sounded, you hear that before anything starts — and you can still say no.
We check you live there. Photo ID and something that puts you at the address. It is the one part of this job nobody may skip, and anyone who does not ask you for it should worry you.
Non-destructive first, always. Most lockouts end with the lock untouched and your own keys still working. Drilling costs you more, and it only happens once you have said so.

The form is fine for a planned lock change or a security quote. If you are stood outside your own front door, ring instead — nobody watches a form at two in the morning.
