A roof you won't have to think about

Roofers and leadworkers from Chesterfield. New roofs, re-roofs, guttering and loft insulation — and if it's coming in, we come out. The survey and the itemised quote cost you nothing. Before you even ring, work the price out yourself.

What we do

The whole roof, rafters to gutter

We don't do everything. We do roofs — houses, cottages and small commercial buildings within about 30 miles of Chesterfield — and we do the whole thing, so there's nobody to argue with about whose fault a leak is.

New roofs and re-roofs

Old covering stripped, rafters repaired, new battens, membrane and ridge. Handed over finished, cleared up, with the skip gone.

  • clay, concrete, slate, standing seam and felt shingle
  • rotten rafters and wall plates replaced
  • breathable membrane and a dry ridge
from £115 / m² of roof

Leadwork and guttering

Gutters, downpipes, valleys, chimney flashing, parapets and sills. In lead, zinc, coated steel or copper.

  • a whole guttering system replaced
  • valleys and hips folded to size in our own workshop
  • chimney flashing and pipe penetrations
from £38 / metre

Loft insulation

Between and under the rafters, with the vapour barrier taped so it actually holds. Without it even a new roof sweats on the timbers in January.

  • mineral wool 240–300 mm
  • vapour barrier with every joint taped
  • battened out ready for plasterboard
from £45 / m²

Repairs and maintenance

Slipped tiles, a split valley, a blocked downpipe, flashing lifting. Small things sorted within a week, before they turn into big ones.

  • a look over the roof after winter
  • gutters and downpipes cleared
  • chimney and penetrations resealed
£48 / hour plus materials

Roof windows and hatches

Old roof windows swapped without cutting the rafters, the vapour barrier made good and new flashing to suit the covering.

  • a window changed in half a day
  • flashing kits for tile or slate
  • an access hatch out to the chimney
from £680 / window

Emergency call-outs

After a storm we come out in the evening and at weekends. We sheet it, make it safe and photograph the damage for your insurer.

  • tarpaulins and temporary repairs
  • photographs for the insurance claim
  • fallen tiles cleared away
call-out £110 plus labour

What your roof would cost

Set a few things and you'll see the range the price usually lands in — and what makes it up. It isn't a quote; it's the bottom and the top of where we actually end up on houses like yours. The exact figure comes after the survey.

Rough price

The figure covers materials, labour, scaffolding, fixings and VAT at 20 %. It doesn't cover rafter repairs, chimney work, lightning protection, solar or asbestos removal — none of which can be priced until we've been in the loft.

Before and after

The same house, nine working days

A tired roof before replacement, with slipped slates and moss in the valleys The same roof fully replaced, with new ridge tiles, flashing and guttering

A house in Chesterfield, May 2025. 1978 asbestos cement sheets off, new clay tile, new battens, breathable membrane and copper gutters. 168 m² of roof, nine working days, £19,400 for the work. The asbestos removal wasn't ours — a licensed contractor took it away for another £1,900, and the owner has that on a separate invoice.

How it works

Six steps from a phone call to a roof

So it's clear in advance what happens when, and when you're expected to pay for anything.

You get in touch

By phone, email or the form below. The town, roughly how big the house is and what's wrong is enough. Photos help but aren't essential.

we ring back within 24 hours

We come and survey it

We measure the roof, go up into the loft to look at the timbers, and check the chimney and gutters. Whatever's wrong under the tiles gets photographed — and you see the photos too.

free, even if nothing comes of it

You get an itemised quote

One sheet with materials, labour, scaffolding and disposal listed separately. It stands for 60 days and the material prices in it are held.

within 5 working days

We agree dates and order the materials

The dates come in writing. The 30 % deposit is due when the covering is actually ordered — not when you sign.

the next free slot is usually 4–6 weeks out

The roof goes on

A gang of three or four, the ground cleared every evening and the skip taken as soon as it's full. If rain is coming, the open roof gets sheeted.

an ordinary house takes 6–12 working days

Handover and guarantee

We go over the roof together, and you get the handover sheet, the paperwork for the covering and the guarantee. We come back a year later to check it's all still right.

We photograph every finished roof, including the ones that turned out to be more work than we thought. The full gallery is on the Our work.

What you can expect

Three things we always do

You see what's under the tiles

Every roof has something wrong underneath it, and the honest question is whether you find out from a photograph or from a bill. We photograph the rafters and the felt on the survey, and you get those photos whether you use us or not.

The quote is itemised and it holds for 60 days

Materials, labour, scaffolding and disposal listed separately, with the material prices fixed. If we find something once the covering is off, the work stops and you get a price for it before anyone carries on.

An open roof never gets left to the weather

If rain is forecast, what's stripped gets sheeted before we go home — even if it costs us an hour. A roof that leaks during the job does more damage than the one you were replacing.

About us

We're from Chesterfield, and there are eleven of us

The firm started in 2009, after years of roofing for someone else and getting tired of being told to hurry. We began as three; today three gangs go out, and we have our own folder in the workshop, so valleys and flashings are made here rather than waited for.

We don't subcontract, we don't use agency labour, and nobody goes on your roof who we don't know by name. If something goes wrong, you deal with the person who priced it, not a call centre.

Chesterfield, Dronfield, Bakewell, Matlock, Clay Cross, Bolsover, Hathersage, Sheffield, Worksop and the villages in between. Beyond 30 miles we only take bigger jobs — we'll say so on the phone rather than raise your hopes.

It takes a minute. It commits you to nothing and your number goes nowhere.

You can't attach photos here — this is an example. On a real site there'd be an upload field and the photos would arrive straight in the email.

Sending this buys nothing. We'll get back to you, ask a couple of questions and arrange to come and look.
