Three things to check before you pay a deposit

Ask them of us and of anybody else you are getting a price from.

Ask for the ATOL number, and check it. Any flight-inclusive package sold in the UK has to be ATOL protected, and you can look the number up on the CAA website in under a minute. If the holiday has a flight and nobody mentions ATOL, walk away.
Ask what is protected when there is no flight. A self-drive or coach package is covered by the Package Travel Regulations rather than ATOL, and ABTA membership is the usual backstop. Different scheme, same question: who holds your money.
Ask who answers the phone at 11pm on a Sunday. The hotel being wrong is rare. Nobody picking up when it is, is not. Ask for the out-of-hours number before you book, not after.
