A practice that explains what is actually wrong

A small practice in Beccles with its own x-ray, ultrasound and theatre. You book a real time slot online, you hear the price before anything starts, and you leave knowing what happens next.

X-ray and ultrasound on site

A film is read within half an hour. No driving a poorly animal to Norwich and back.

The price comes first

You get an estimate before we start. If something changes mid-consultation, we ring you.

Rabbits, guinea pigs and parrots

Small mammals and exotics are seen by our exotics vet — the only one for them locally.

Out of hours

The RCVS code says every practice must arrange 24-hour cover. Ours is answered by a vet who can see your records, not a call centre.

Booking

Pick a time that suits you

Tell us what you are bringing and why. It works out which vet you need, how long to set aside, and shows you actual free slots — not “we will call you back”.

1 What are you bringing?
2 What is it about?
3 When would suit?
The earliest you can book is two hours from now.

Fill in the three steps above and press “Show me the free slots”.

What we do here

From a puppy’s first jab to a heart scan

Most of it happens here, in one visit. What we cannot do, we do not attempt — we refer you and book the appointment for you.

Prevention and vaccination

Annual check, boosters, worming, microchipping and an animal health certificate for travel. Older animals get bloods with it.

More on prevention →

Medicine

Gut, kidneys, liver, thyroid, heart. We look for the cause rather than quietening the symptoms.

More on medicine →

Surgery

Neutering, lump removals, wounds and fractures. Our own theatre, with a nurse watching the monitors throughout.

More on surgery →

Dentistry

Scale and polish, extractions and a proper look at the mouth. Rodents’ teeth burred down as well.

More on dentistry →

X-ray and ultrasound

Digital x-ray and ultrasound in the building. We read the images there and then, not the next day.

More on imaging →

Lab on site

Bloods and biochemistry back in twenty minutes. With a sick animal that is what decides the treatment.

How a visit goes

Four steps, booking to follow-up

No sitting in a full waiting room and no surprise on the bill. Here is what happens.

  1. You book

Online for a real time slot, or by phone. If it is urgent we ring back within fifteen minutes.

  2. Come ten minutes early

A nurse weighs them, takes a temperature and sets up the notes. Cats have their own quiet corner away from the dogs.

  3. The consultation

The vet explains it in plain English, not Latin. You get a plan and a price, and then you decide.

  4. Afterwards

You go home with it written down — what to give and when. The follow-up is booked at the desk so nobody forgets it.

Who you will see

Three vets and two nurses you will get to know

In a small practice the same people see the same animals. That is the main reason nothing here falls through the cracks.

Lead vet

Medicine and cardiology

Opened the practice in 2011 in what had been a pet shop. Does the heart scans here rather than sending animals to Norwich for them.

Surgeon

Surgery and dentistry

Soft tissue, orthopaedics and dentistry. Operates Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, and insists on pre-anaesthetic bloods every time.

Small mammals and exotics

Rabbits, rodents and birds

Rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, parrots and tortoises. In on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, and spends as long on the feeding as on the animal.

Veterinary nurse

Reception, bloods and theatre

The one who rings the day before to remind you, and rings again afterwards to ask how they are getting on at home.

What to expect

Three things we say before you agree to anything

An estimate, in writing, before we start. If the plan changes once we are looking, you get a phone call and a new figure — not a bigger bill at the end. Ask any practice for that and see what you get.

Insurance does not mean we can charge what we like. The estimate is the same whether you are insured or not, and we will tell you which parts of a plan are optional so you can decide.

Out of hours is a real vet with your records. The RCVS requires every practice to arrange 24-hour cover. Ask who actually answers at two in the morning, and whether they can see your animal’s history.

Not sure whether to bring them in?

Write and tell us what is happening. We normally answer within a working day — but if it is urgent, ring instead.

This form is not a way of getting a diagnosis at a distance. If it is urgent, ring 07700 900221.
